American Pickers is a show that is featured in History Channel that is led by Mike Wolfe, Frank Fritz and Danielle Colby Cushman. The program shows how the three hosts get to travel all over the United States in search of vintage items that tells much about the American history.
The archaeological finds are not only weighed based on its historical value but also aesthetically. The group roams around and knocks on people’s front doors and asks for permission to rummage through their garage, backyards and attics or wherever they may be leaving their old stuff such as jukeboxes, old shoes, and vintage monokini swimsuits from the 60′s. It became vital for the group to have excellent people skills because it is not easy to convince another person to allow one to step into your personal property and worse, is to rummage through.
They consider that it is not always easy to be a picker. It is a job that they treat as a daily hunt for treasure that requires a lot of patience as they go through items and materials. Quick thinking is also vital as it bids these pickers to have full control of their path. It requires not just planning for the trip but making sure that all bases are covered to be ready for last minute changes and quick fixes to implement.
Part of the job is to make sure that the trip is not only limited to the target area but these pickers also make quick stop overs for anything that they come across and find interesting. They always base their trips on the principle that there is something out there that will be valuable to their search for an interesting pick.
It is not always a requirement to know everything and history all in all. What is important is the knack to find something valuable and expect to see them posted on Antique Archaeology.
